Thief Caught on Video Dragging Stolen Keyboard

ATLANTA -- The thief thought no one was watching.

With an early morning sun shining overhead, the bad guy walked through the parking lot of the Milltown Lofts in southeast Atlanta Sunday morning, dragging a stolen keyboard behind him.

Little did he know, homeowner Ron McNeely had installed two unblinking security cameras that were pointed out of his front door.

"Seeing some of the other videos that have been on YouTube, on the news around East Atlanta and this part of town, these guys don't really care," says McNeely

After several break ins around his neighborhood, McNeeley employed his electronic eyewitnesses that were watching as a stranger arrived at 3:30 Sunday morning. The man lingered around several vehicles before he tried to break into an SUV.

The suspect left, only to return three hours later. At 6:30 a.m., he smashed the window of a pickup truck and walked away with his musical prize, a keyboard that belongs to Doug Jervey.

"It was shocking to see him do it in broad daylight," says Jervy. "Breaking the glass, walking across the parking lot. Crazy."

The video is now in the hands of Atlanta police, and posted on YouTube, where it joins quite a collection. Surveillance systems that were once seen only at banks and convenience stores are now all over Atlanta, and the videos going viral.

Ron McNeely's system cost about two thousand dollars. That paid for the cameras and the software to get the video to his computer. He says you can buy cheaper versions.

He's helped several of his neighbors install cameras around their homes.

"In the whole complex, we've got twenty five cameras," says McNeely. "We've got everything covered."
