ALPHARETTA, GA -- Alpharetta Police say a man they arrested methodically stalked his victim, a 9-year old girl, at a very popular place. It was at a shopping mall. Scott Carlton Taylor, 46, of Avondale Estates is charged with Felony Child Molestation.

Police say Taylor was well-dressed and most people wouldn't be concerned if they saw him in a store. Now they say kids weren't safe around him.

He is charged in connection with an incident that happened in the kids department of Macy's at North Point Mall on August 4th.

Police say he stalked his victim. They say he carried a little girls dress in his hands and waited for the right opportunity. "This male would take a small dress, walk up to a little girl, hold the dress up to the little girl and say you're about my daughters size, can you hold this dress for me?," said George Gordon, the Public Information Officer for the Alpharetta Police Department.

"When the little girl complied the male (Taylor) inappropriately touched her on the outside of her clothing," Gordon said.

Gordon says the 9-year old told her mother who was with her in the store. Her mother called police.

Alpharetta Police checked with a number of police agencies throughout the metro Atlanta area to see if anyone had any similar cases. They found one that happened at the Mall of Georgia in Gwinnett County. Gwinnett County Police sent Alpharetta Police a surveillance photo from that incident and they police say it was Taylor.

On August 14th, after the pictures were released publicly, Taylor was brought into Alpharetta Police headquarters by his brother-in-law. "The brother-in-law saw his photo on TV and he knew it was just a matter of time before we learned his identity," Gordon said. "The brother-in-law talked with the suspect and thought it was best for him to turn himself in."

Gordon says a couple of things disturb police about this case. "Video surveillance shows him when he was finished doing his deed he would sprint out of the mall at a full run to his vehicle," he said.

Even though Taylor was seen on numerous cameras inside the mall, Gordon says he cleverly stalked his victim. "This male obviously knew where all the security cameras were in a particular location in the store that he was in," he said. "He would stand for about 45-minutes up against a wall out of view of everyone." Gordon says it's something for every parent to think about.

Taylor has not been charged with the incident at the Mall of Georgia. Alpharetta police say they are concerned there might be other cases at other malls.
