Kidnapping Suspects Shopped With Victim's Credit

DUNWOODY, GA -- Dunwoody police think they may have the help they need to find out who kidnapped and beat a 60-year old man and held him captive for more than 15-hours.

The victim was abducted on last month at his apartment complex in Dunwoody. The man, who is not being identified, was picking up his mail at the Broadstone apartments when four suspects kidnapped him at gunpoint. They drove him around DeKalb County using his bank card to withdraw money at ATM's.

Now police have evidence the suspects used the victim's credit cards to go on a shopping spree. They have obtained video from surveillance cameras at two locations, one at Stonecrest Mall and the other at South DeKalb Mall. The suspects are seen in DTLR, an urban fashion store.

On Wednesday, police released video from a Publix store in Decatur that showed one suspect withdrawing money from an atm. That video was blurry and it was difficult to see the suspects face. The new video from the malls is much clearer and police are hopeful someone will recognize them. "We're hoping this will shed some light that it's a little more clearer and hopefully somebody will recognize them and call us," said Dunwoody police Sgt. Michael Carlson.

One of the suspects in the store video is wearing a Baltimore Orioles baseball cap. Two other suspects are wearing distinctive t-shirts. The pictures were taken about 12-hours after the 60-year old man was abducted. During the 15-hour ordeal, police say the victim was blindfolded and beaten.

Earlier video showed the suspects driving a white van that appeared to be a GMC or Chevy. Police believe while the three suspects were shopping, a fourth suspect was in the van with the victim. "That was a lot of time and he endured a lot of physical abuse during it," said Sgt. Carlson.

In the store videos the suspects spend a lot of time shopping for shoes and other clothing. One suspect is seen modeling a jacket in front of a mirror. Sgt. Carlson said they made several purchases on the victim's credit cards. The video shows one suspect using a card and signing a receipt. Another camera shows him walking out of the store with three bags of merchandise.

Dunwoody police are asking anyone who may recognize the suspects in the video to call Detective Kelly Gobely at 678-382-6914.
