ATLANTA -- Chances are, you've never seen her face. And you likely won't recognize her name. But Racquel Bailey's new billboard is turning heads in South Atlanta.
And she's hoping it's enough to propel her to a starring role in Tyler Perry's next film.
The 23-year-old actress bought ad space on a billboard at the intersection of Campbellton Road and Barge Road, and is using it to speak directly to the Atlanta film mogul. Her message: "Let me be your next leading lady." The board, she said, addresses Perry himself as the "Top Film Maker in ATL."
Bailey, who lives in New Jersey, said she purposely bought the space two miles away from Perry's studios.
"I hoped he would see it while he was driving to work, or on his way home from work, or that someone would see it!" she told 11Alive's Blayne Alexander via Skype.
And it didn't come cheap; Bailey paid $1,500 for the billboard.
"My last money for the year!" she laughed.
The ad includes her website, which links to samples of her work, photos and biographical information. According to her resume, her acting credits include several off-Broadway plays. She also teaches acting.
11Alive News reached out to Perry to get his response to the billboard, but his representatives had no comment. In the past, Perry has been vocal about wanting to see new talent. His website even includes a page for aspiring actors to upload videos of their work.
Bailey said she is willing to relocate to Atlanta and just hopes her bold move pays off.
"All I want is a chance," she said. "I'm just waiting for that call."
