Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - After serving a suspension over the past two games, Angel McCoughtry came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points, as the Atlanta Dream downed the Connecticut Sun, 87-80, Sunday at Philips Arena.
Sancho Lyttle and Erika de Souza each recorded a double-double, as Lyttle netted 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while de Souza donated 14 points and 12 boards for the Dream, who earned their second consecutive victory under newly-appointed head coach Fred Williams.
Williams replaced Marynell Meadors on Monday and quickly made a splash by suspending McCoughtry, the team's leading scorer, for violating an undisclosed team rule.
Kara Lawson led the way for Connecticut with 16 points and five assists, while Daniel McCray chipped in 15 points off the bench for the Sun, who had won their previous two meetings with the Dream this season.
The teams entered the final frame locked at 58-58, but McCoughtry's 3-pointer with just under two minutes left in the stanza gave Atlanta an 81-75 edge.
Renee Montgomery responded with a triple to cut the lead in half, but McCoughtry finished a layup before adding a jumper with 34.0 ticks left on the clock to send the Dream to victory.
