STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- DeKalb Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton will host the "Overcome Ovarian Cancer 3K Walk on Saturday, October 6 at Wade Walker Park.
According to DeKalb County, they hope the walk will increase awareness for the detection and prevention of ovarian cancer. They said the disease is responsible for 15,000 deaths of women each year.
Commissioner Sutton said, "Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of death among women in the United States. It's important that we unite as a community to educate our citizens about the warning signs so that we can break the silence on ovarian cancer."
More than 40 teams are gearing up for the walk, along with several vendors who will participate in the market. These partners and sponsors include Wade Walker Park YMCA, Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority, Kaiser Permanente, Hampton Inn Stone Mountain, Edible Fruit Arrangements, Target and Kroger.
