CARROLLTON, Ga. -- Two officers were hospitalized after being hit by a pickup truck on the scene of an earlier accident on Saturday morning in Carrollton.
It happened around 6 a.m. on Bankhead Highway near Almon Raod. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the officers, Brent Dougans and Mario Potts were mapping the scene of an earlier pedestrian crash.
A pickup truck, driven by 60-year-old Paul Powers of Carrollton, entered the barricaded area and struck the officers. Both officers were transported; Dougans to Tanner Medical in Carrolton and Potts was air lifted to Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta.
Officials say there is no indication that alcohol was involved in this incident. A preliminary investigation surmises that the "vehicle's windshield possibly fogged up causing the driver to not be able to see the officers."
This accident is still under investigation.
