Pullman, WA (Sports Network) - Brock Motum scored a game-high 29 points and
pulled down seven rebounds as he helped guide the Washington State Cougars to
a 72-60 win over the Portland Pilots in non-conference action at Beasley
Coliseum.
Also having a strong game for the Cougars (5-3) was Royce Woolridge with 20
points and seven rebounds of his own as they won their third in a row.
The Pilots (3-4) were paced by Ryan Nicholas with 17 points and a game-high
nine rebounds, shooting 5-of-9 behind the three-point line, but still the team
suffered a second loss in the last three outings.
Portland managed to move out to an early three-point lead in the first half,
but it was short-lived as the Cougars held the visitors to just seven total
field goals in the first half. Despite shooting just 36.4 percent from the
floor in the frame, WSU was able to establish a 33-23 lead at the break.
In the second half the Cougars were much more precise from the field, hitting
at a 52.2 percent clip as they captured the double-digit victory.
Washington State dominated in the paint, outscoring Portland in the key 32-12
and also holding a 45-27 advantage on the glass.
