Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Ray McCallum led all scorers with 21 points,
and the Detroit Titans extended their home winning streak to 14 straight with
an 80-73 decision over the Akron Zips at Calihan Hall.
Jason Calliste chipped in with 17 points for the Titans (6-4), while Juwan
Howard, Jr. scored 15 and Nick Minnerath finished with 13.
Demetrius Treadwell led the Zips (4-4) with 20 points and eight boards as he
shot 9-of-10 from the field. Chauncey Gilliam added 16 points in the loss.
Akron jumped out to a 10-0 lead and still held a 25-15 advantage midway
through the opening frame. However, the Titans went on a 9-2 spurt late in the
half to head into the locker room trailing, 36-33.
Trailing 68-63 with just under six minutes to play in regulation, Detroit made
its move. A three-point play by Minnerath kickstarted a 17-5 surge for the
Titans, who never led by more than five until the final seconds.
Akron committed 19 turnovers for the game and also struggled at the foul line,
converting only 11-of-22 attempts. Conversely, Detroit made 26-of-39 at the
charity stripe.
