Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Carl Jones poured in a game-high 32 points
to lead the Saint Joseph's Hawks past the Iona Gaels to a 96-91 win in a non-
conference shootout at Hagan Arena.
Langston Galloway netted 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field for the
Hawks (6-4) as they ended a two-game losing slide. C.J. Aiken made an impact
as well with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.
Iona (6-6) came up short despite Lamont Jones tallying 25 points and five
assists to lead four players in double-figures. David Laury recorded a double-
double with 21 points and 14 rebounds, Sean Armand got into the mix with 17
points and six assists, and A.J. English chipped in 11 points.
The first half was back-and-forth affair that featured six lead changes and
seven ties. Iona scored 16 second chance points and nine more off of turnovers
to build a narrow 47-45 advantage as the game progressed into the
intermission. Saint Joseph's trailed at the break even though it knocked down
53.3 percent of its field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
The Hawks were even better after halftime with makes on 60.7 percent of their
shots from the floor, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range. The Gaels faced an
11-point deficit with 12:09 left in regulation, but rallied back in the late
stages of the contest. A dunk by Laury cut the Hawks' lead to 90-88 with 37
seconds on the clock, but Saint Joseph's converted all six of its free throws
attempts the rest of the way to fend off Iona.
Iona enjoyed a 41-30 edge in the rebounding battle, but the Hawks outscored
the visitors, 19-11, at the charity stripe to improve their all-time record
against the Gaels to 4-1.
