Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) - Gary Browne and Juwan Staten each had a
team-high 17 points as the West Virginia Mountaineers took care of the Eastern
Kentucky Colonels, 74-67, in a non-league battle at WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia (7-5) also got 10 points from Deniz Kilicli and 12 rebounds from
Aaric Murray. The Mountaineers have won three straight.
Glenn Cosey scored a game-high 21 points and Mike DiNunno and Orlando Williams
each added 10 points for Eastern Kentucky (10-3) which lost for the third time
in the last four games.
The Mountaineers had a comforatable 35-22 lead at halftime after limiting the
Colonels to just eight first half field goals. West Virginia shot 46.4 percent
itself and nailed 7-of-9 shots from the free throw line.
Eastern Kentucky rallied in the second half by connecting on 63.0 percent of
their field goal attempts including 8-of-16 from beyond the arc. Although the
Mountaineers cooled to 33.3 percent shooting, a 25-3 edge on points from the
free throw line allowed the Mountaineers to pull out the win.
West Virginia had a 32-20 edge on points in the paint and a 39-28 advantage on
the boards.
