1 dead after fire breaks out in Suwanee motel room

One man dead in Suwanee motel room fire

SUWANEE, Ga. -- Officials are investigating after a fire at a Gwinnett County motel left one person dead.

According to Gwinnett County Fire Department, firefighters responded to an InTown Suites-operated motel on Celebration Drive NW around 2 a.m. When they got there, they found smoke coming from a first-floor room.

Firefighters entered the room and found a man inside. They were able to quickly pull him from the room, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released a cause of death at this time.

Fire officials said the fire inside the room was controlled by the motel's sprinkler system and did not burn any other units. No one else was injured and occupants were allowed back inside the rooms after firefighters cleared the scene.

The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.
