SUWANEE, Ga. -- A teen girl and her boyfriend have been hospitalized with self-inflicted wounds as Gwinnett County police investigate them for the death of a couple in their 60s.
Wendy and Randall Bjorge, both 63, were found dead in their Lawrenceville, Ga. home Saturday night after police conducted a wellness check on the couple.
On Sunday, a 17-year-old girl and 19-year-old Johnny Rider were taken into custody in connection with their deaths though neither has been charged in the deaths as of yet.
Police were led to the Bjorges' residence after responding to an assault call earlier Saturday night on Rambling Woods Drive. That's where Rider's sister and her boyfriend said he beat them with a baseball bat. While at the scene, police located a vehicle belonging to the Bjorges. Rider is already facing charges for that alleged attack.
"Officers had previously been to the home of Wendy and Randall earlier in the week for welfare checks and were unable to make contact," according to a Gwinnett police statement. "Because of the crime at hand, officers decided to again make a welfare check at their home."
After entering the home, police found the couple dead upstairs.
"Their deaths were apparent homicides," Gwinnett Police Detective D.C. Smith said.
With the help of Rider's family, police were able to find him and the teen girl at the Residences at McGinnis Ferry on McGinnis Ferry Road in Suwanee, Ga. The apartment was that of a friend that was not involved in the incident, police said.
"Officers attempted to make contact and the suspects refused to exit the apartment," Smith said.
A SWAT team was called out to the apartment complex and police entered the apartment a short time later.
"Both suspects were suffering from self-inflicted wounds," police added. "The suspects were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center-Lawrenceville for treatment."
No officers were injured. The conditions of the suspects have not been released. Investigators believe the suspects cut themselves before they were apprehended.
