POWER OUTAGE | 15,000+ remain without power after severe weather

It was a rough start to many Spring Breaks as Monday's storms caused long delays and widespread power outages across the area.

ATLANTA -- As more than 30 weather alerts loomed over Metro Atlanta, including tornado warnings, more than 61,000 people were without power Monday afternoon.

At first, most of those outages were in the southwest corner of Metro Atlanta between I-20 and I-85. Carrollton was at the center of those outages. But, by 1:15, the outages were widespread throughout Metro Atlanta. 

As of 3 p.m, Georgia Power reported more than 48,000 customers remained without power, while Georgia EMC said nearly 14,000 of its customers were in the dark. By  5 p..m, the number of Georgia Power outages was down to 36,000. Georgia EMC's outages statewide were at 22,000 -- many in middle Georgia.

Nearly five hours later, outage numbers for Georgia Power were down to about 15,000. More than 11,000 Georgia EMC customers remained without power during the same period..
