TUCKER, GA (WXIA) -- A mother and two young girls were killed in a house fire in Tucker Tuesday night. The girls' father was sole survivor of the blaze.
The fire was in the 1000 block of Pointer Ridge in Tucker, and broke out shortly before 9 p.m.
Firefighters said the father heard a crackling noise from upstairs and was able to get out before the blaze consumed the home, while the girls, ages 9 and 12, along with their mother, were unable to escape.
The father and a neighbor reportedly tried to get back inside the house but were unsuccessful. He was treated for burns by EMTs at the scene.
The fire was so strong firefighters were not able to enter either and had to fight it from outside.
Investigators were working to find out the cause of the fire.
Captain Tommy Rutledge said there was a fire burning in the fireplace but it has not been determined if it played a role.
He said the fire was driven by wind and spread quickly.
