Man wanted for Union City shooting arrested in Alabama

HOOVER, AL (WXIA) – Police said a man wanted in connection with a shooting death Wednesday night at a Union City gas station was arrested on Friday in Hoover, AL.

Union City Police said the shooting happened at the Chevron Food Mart at 5851 Bluffington Road in Union City at about 10 p.m. Police said when they arrived at the gas station, they found the body of a man in the parking lot, along with a woman who had been shot several times. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers said they were able to determine the shooting was tied to a domestic dispute, and obtained an arrest warrant for 39-year-old Marcus Lamont Payne of College Park. He was charged with murder, aggravated assault and other offenses.

Friday afternoon, Payne was taken into custody at a family member's residence in the Birmingham suburb of Hoover.

The identity of the deceased male has not been released yet, and investigators are still trying to notify his next-of-kin.
