BROOKHAVEN, Ga. – The mystery continues: who won the $246 million Powerball prize in Brookhaven?
Lottery officials said a ticket was sold at the Publix store on Town Boulevard matched all five numbers and the Powerball in Saturday night’s drawing.
While many would love to scream from the rooftop that they were sudden millionaires, financial experts said winners should do the exact opposite.
Personal wealth advisor Kerry Mallory said that winners should change their phone number and delete their Facebook profile. With such a large sum of money, people are guaranteed to come out of the woodwork and want a piece of it.
Before cashing the ticket, Mallory said the winner should hire a lawyer, an accountant and a money manager, and then just sit tight.
“We recommend that for the first year you don't make any rash decisions, you don't do anything-- process this emotionally and mentally,” Mallory said.
In Georgia, winners have to claim their ticket within 180 days of sale. If the winner of Saturday’s jackpot takes the full 180 days, we won’t find out their identity until March 2017.
For the record, the winning numbers were: 9-19-51-55-62 with a Powerball of 14.
