France inaugurated new President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday.

Macron, 39, was elected on May 7.

The president of the constitutional council, Laurent Fabius, proclaimed the official result of the vote in a ceremony on Sunday at the Elysee presidential palace in Paris.

Macron takes charge of a nation that, when Britain leaves the European union in 2019, will become the E.U.’s only member with nuclear weapons and a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council.
