CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Two men who was trapped in an overturned tractor trailer are now free.
The truck overturned on the I-285 W ramp to I-75 S in Clayton County around 6:20 Thursday morning.
The truck was carrying two men, 59-year-old Jimmy Simmons Jr. and 58-year-old Alonzo Holmes of Plant City, Florida. Crews were able to rescue Holmes after about 45 minutes.
Crews were able to rescue Simmons after about three hours of being trapped. He was trapped between the truck and the jersey wall.
"Responding officers were advised that as the driver of the tractor trailer (Simmons) was attempting to negotiate the curve from I-285 West to I-75 South, the vehicle experienced a mechanical malfunction which cause him to lose control of the vehicle. As a result of his inability to control the vehicle after the malfunction, the vehicle struck the guardrail and veered off of the roadway," a statement from Clayton County Police read.
Both men were taken to local hospital in serious condition but are expected to service.
The Georgia Department of Transportation said the bridge could have structural damage.
