Megyn Kelly to square off against Ripa-Seacrest 'Live' combo

Get ready for the battle of the Kellys.

NBC News Monday settled time slot speculation Monday, saying new star hire Megyn Kelly will get the 9 a.m. ET/PT time slot for her new weekday show.

That means she will face off against Kelly Ripa, who introduced her new co-host, Atlanta’s own Ryan Seacrest, on Monday's Live With Kelly.

"Live With Kelly and Ryan," as the popular daytime talk show now will be called, is produced in New York and runs on many ABC stations against what has been the third hour of NBC's morning staple, Today.

Kelly's new daytime show, which launches in the fall, will be hammocked between the first two hours of Today, which runs from 7 to 9 a.m. ET/PT, and another hour of Today featuring Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb that runs at 10 a.m. ET/PT.

NBC's Monday announcement answers the question of whether Kelly's new show would run at 9 a.m., where it would replace a departing hour of Today that had been anchored by Al Roker and Tamron Hall, or whether it would run at 10, with the Gifford-Kotb hour moving up to 9. After Ripa introduced Seacrest Monday, speculation bubbled that Kelly's show might sidestep a Kelly-Kelly ratings battle by running at 10.

Kelly, whose decision to leave Fox News Channel for NBC News was a huge media story when it was announced in January, arrived at NBC in New York Monday for her first day of work at the new job. In addition to the weekday show, whose premiere date has not been announced, Kelly also will contribute to NBC's political coverage and host a short-term Sunday newsmagazine that begins its run in June.
