ROANOKE, VA -- A bankruptcy trustee says claims have been filed for 154 people who claim they became ill after eating peanut products tainted by salmonella.

The company at the center of that nationwide salmonella outbreak is Peanut Corp. of America, which is based in Virginia.

Health inspectors linked the outbreak to PCA's plants in Blakely, Georgia, and Texas.

So far, the bankruptcy trustee says it's unclear how many people will be ultimately eligible for compensation from a $12 million fund approved by a bankruptcy judge in Lynchburg.

The salmonella outbreak is blamed for at least nine deaths and nearly 700 illnesses.

PCA filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy after the fallout.
