FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) -- Military cooks at Fort Benning in west
Georgia are literally feeding an Army this Thanksgiving.
Officials at the Army post near Columbus say they're planning to
serve 13,000 soldiers Thursday. It's an undertaking that requires huge quantities of turkey and trimmings.
Army cooks will prepare 1,800 whole turkeys for troops unable to make it home for the holiday. They'll also be serving up 5,400
pounds of beef and more than 7,400 pounds of pork.
The huge feast is too large to be confined to one chow hall on
Fort Benning, which will have 20 dining halls open for the holiday.
