MARIETTA, Ga. -- Cobb County police have called out a special unit to investigate after a car ran over its own driver Friday afternoon.
Police said that around 4 p.m. a 68-year-old man was attempting to park his 1992 Lincoln Town Car in the 3300 block of Heatherwood Lane when a serious of missteps led to his death.
According to investigations by Cobb County's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), Kwaku Appau quickly realized that his car was in reverse but became disoriented and pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake.
The car continued north on the driveway before hitting a guy wire to a nearby utility pole and entering the road. Investigators believe Appau turned right forcing the car into a clockwise turn - all while the driver's side door was still open.
Appau apparently then fell out of the car and was run over by it. The car continued toward the south until it struck a tree. Sadly, Appau died at the scene.
As the investigation continues, authorities are asking anyone with additional information to call investigators at 770-499-3987.
