Governor 2018: Williams endorsed by Trump advisor Roger Stone

The Georgia senator just announced his plans to run.

ATLANTA - State Sen. Michael Williams is set to be endorsed on Friday by one of the nation’s highest profile political consultants in his gubernatorial campaign.

Roger Stone, a longtime advisor and confidant to President Donald Trump, is endorsing Williams on Friday afternoon at a campaign event in Peachtree Corners.

Williams' campaign said Stone has played an influential role in every Republican presidential election since Richard Nixon.

"For 40 years, Roger Stone has successfully fought the establishment," Williams said. "His endorsement is a vote of confidence in our movement to rid Georgia's government of the establishment."

Williams is one of four Republicans seeking to succeed Gov. Nathan Deal, who cannot run for reelection. Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, Secretary of State Brian Kemp and Hunter Bradley Hill are also running.

Williams has accused Cagle of blocking two bills that Williams sponsored, as well as accusing an unidentified Cagle operative of bribing him to get out of the governor’s race.
