Race to replace Tom Price: Atlanta mayor predicts win for Ossoff

MSNBC: Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed on 6th District Race

ATLANTA, Ga – Mayor Kasim Reed predicted a big win for Democrats Tuesday in the race to replace Tom Price.

“No matter what, he’s going to win tonight,” Reed said in an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “This is the seat that sent Newt Gingrich to speaker of the U.S. House; that sent Johnny Isakson to the Senate; and sent Tom Price to President Trump’s cabinet.

“Any typical Republican should be winning this seat by 20 points, but here we are with Ossoff leading with more than 40 percent of the vote.”

Voters headed to the polls on Tuesday to elect a new 6th district representative in a district that has been held by the GOP since 1978. Ossoff, a Democrat, has been dominating a field of 18 candidates in terms of fundraising and polling.

“This race shouldn’t be close; I shouldn’t be on ‘Morning Joe’ and you all shouldn’t be talking about this race,” Reed said. “But here we are and Ossoff is going to win tonight and close it out.”

Reed said the district is affluent but also becoming more diverse.

“There is something special happening here in this district,” Reed said. “We’re not going to let the president or the Republican Party, who spent more than $4 million in this campaign, turn a win into a loss for us.”

On Monday and Tuesday, President Trump sent out several tweets on the race, and recorded a robocall that was released on Monday, urging people to vote Republican.
