Help Desk: Flowery Branch Issues Boil Water Emergency

FLOWERY BRANCH---A "Boil Water Advisory" is continuing Monday (May 20) until at least 9 p.m., as the City works to reopen flooded roads and buildings.

More than 7.5 inches of rain fell on the City in just 6 hours, leading to the issuance of a State of Emergency.

When it comes to drinking water, Flowery Branch isn't taking any chances.

The water coming out of your tap may look clean and good to drink, but if health officials declare a water emergency, don't risk it.

First and foremost, bring the water to a boil and let it boil for one minute.

The CDC says it will kill the germs and bacteria. Make sure you let the water cool and that you have enough for drinking water, being able to wash your fresh fruits and vegetables, brush your teeth and hand wash your dishes.

And when it comes to washing dishes, don't take a chance on the dishwasher.
During a boiled water emergency the best bet is to take the dishes out of the dishwasher. It uses hot water not boiled water. Put them in the sink and wash them by hand using that boiled water.

With children, use a sponge bath not the shower. Guard against youngsters swallowing any of the tap water, no matter how clear it may look.

And when it comes to infants, take special care.

In preparing a formula for your baby, the CDC says don't use tap water even if it is boiled, use commercially bottled water.

Flowery Branch water is being tested constantly, but wait for the all-clear before you turn on that faucet.
