MACON, Ga. -- Macon voters head to the polls Tuesday to choose the city's next mayor in a run-off election.

Voters will decide between incumbent Robert Reichert and former Mayor C. Jack Ellis.

The Macon Telegraph reported that more than 5,900 voters cast early ballots in the run-off contest. That number is more than the 4,945 early ballots counted before the July election.

Macon voters will also help pick the state senator for District 26, which includes east Macon, part of Houston County, most of Wilkinson County and all of Twiggs County. The candidates are former state Rep. David Lucas or former Macon City Council President Miriam Paris.
