Rayvon Gray (Gwinnett County Jail)
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Late Thursday morning, Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 21-year-old man accused of abandoning his 5-month-old daughter in the woods.
Police said Rayvon Gray had punched his daughter's mother during an argument in their Lawrenceville home on Monday. They said the mother grabbed a kitchen knife and left the home to call police. When police arrived at the home, Gray and the infant were gone.
While searching some nearby woods for Gray, Gwinnett County officers found the child face down in a thick, wooded area about 300 yards from the home, according to the police report.
"Only a few feet away, there was a spider web that looked to be home to a black widow," the report said.
Rescue crews called to the scene said the child was not injured.
Officials said Gray was arresed at the Suburban Lodge at Satellite Boulevard and Georgia Highway 120. The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department said he was alone inside a room at the motel and offered no resistance to deputies.
Gray faces charges of cruelty to children, reckless conduct and battery. He is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
