ATLANTA -- Emergencies happen all the time, without warning. But when it's your pet that's in trouble, would you know what to do?

The Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter of the American Red Cross is now offering pet first-aid classes where participants will learn how to treat common ailments and emergencies, how to prepare pets for disasters, what's needed for a pet first-aid kit, and how to maintain pet health.

You can register for classes online by clicking here or you can register by phone - just call 1-800-REDCROSS (733-2767).

Atlanta Red Cross Pet First-Aid instructor Carolyn Kennedy gave Melissa Long and DeMarco Morgan a tutorial on how to save your dog or cat's life. She's the instructor in the class, which is first of its kind in the metro area.

"We're very excited about it," Kennedy said. "We're trying to get it launched to make people aware. There are so many pet-friendly neighborhoods. We're hoping to get the word out."
