DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (WXIA) -- A Cedar Grove High School student thought something was wrong when he saw his bus driver chatting away on her cell phone while taking him and other students home last Friday afternoon.

He was right.

He sent 11Alive News a video of the chatty driver and he sent a copy to DeKalb County Schools as well.

On Tuesday we showed it to some DeKalb County school parents who couldn't believe it.

"I think it's unprofessional," said one.

"It shouldn't be allowed," said another.

"What is her explanation to us as parents and to her kids if she has any; what example is she setting for them?" asked a third parent.

Turns out DeKalb County's school system is already investigating the driver.

"Any use of cell phones is illegal when the bus is moving; it's against state law; it's also against our policy," said Walter Woods, Communications Director for the school system.

"This has been reinforced to the bus drivers at the beginning of the school year at our annual training; it was also reinforced with our multiple hours of staff development with bus drivers as recently as December," Woods added.

"The bus cannot be moving; if they need to make a call, they need to pull over," he said.

Woods also said any driver caught breaking the policy and state law could be punished with up to three days unpaid leave for the first offense.

They could lose their job if caught multiple times.

Although 11Alive News knows the driver's identity, we are not disclosing it until the school system does its investigation.

Student Crawford said he and his friend blew the whistle on their driver because he claims she's talked on the phone while driving on several occasions.
