SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Nobody was hurt in an officer-involved shooting in Sandy Springs Wednesday morning.
The incident happened shortly after 6 a.m., when a police officer responded to a call about a pedestrian robbery at the Citgo gas station and food mart at Roswell Road and Lake Placid Drive near Interstate 285.
Sandy Springs Police spokesman Steve Rose said the robbery suspect, who was inside a car, pulled out a gun, prompting the officer to fire his own gun.
The suspect, who was not hit, tried to run but was quickly captured. He was identified as 34-year-old LeRon Omar Boone of Stone Mountain.
Boone has been charged with robbery, obstruction and firearm possession. He is being held in the Fulton County Jail. Boone is expected to make a first appearance in court Thursday at 11 a.m.
A portion of Roswell Road around the Citgo was temporarily shut down while police conducted their investigation.
