ATHENS, Ga. -- Two men tried to fool a driver into thinking they had a radar gun, then tried to stop the driver near Athens Tuesday.
The driver turned out to be an off-duty Athens-Clarke County police officer, who pulled the men over instead.
Police told the Athens Banner-Herald the two men were in a pickup truck and used a rolled-up magazine to appear they were using a radar gun on U.S. Highway 441 in Oconee County.
The men "peeled out" after the off-duty officer, flashing their headlights and mouthing the words "pull over," police said.
The officer called sheriff's officials, who stopped the suspects. One of the men told police they got bored, so they decided to try and stop some cars.
The men were 24 and 25 years old. Their names were not released.
Both were let go with no charges filed.
