COLUMBUS, Ga. -- A state investigation into the Muscogee County Prison is revealing allegations of gross misconduct by the staff, including sexual relationships that may have led to preferential treatment and mistreatment of inmates.
The Department of Corrections investigation came at the request of Mayor Teresa Tomlinson.
The department sent five investigators to the prison in late September, and they interviewed 27 current and former prison employees. The report was declassified last week and obtained through a public records request.
Tomlinson said the report shows people were being "managed through intimidation and fear."
Warden Dwight Hamrick, a corrections veteran who took over the prison in September, said morale at the facility has improved under his leadership.
