ATLANTA -- Few Atlantans rely on public transit for their daily commutes, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Only 3.36 percent of metro Atlanta workers hop aboard a MARTA train or bus or use their local public bus service. Atlanta ranks 49th among 942 metros and micros in the report.
Compare that with No. 1 New York, where 30.5 percent of workers travel to their workplaces by bus, subway or train.
San Francisco-Oakland is a distant second at 14.6 percent.
Usage of public transit exceeds 10 percent in just five other markets -- Washington, Boston, Chicago and two micropolitan areas in Florida: Arcadia and Clewiston.
