ATLANTA (WXIA) -- The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for the northwest portion of Georgia through 1 a.m. Thursday.
The watch area includes Banks, Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Dade, Dawson, Fannin, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gordon, Hall, Lumpkin, Murray, Pickens, Polk, Towns, Union, Walker, White and Whitfield counties. This includes the cities of Blairsville, Calhoun, Cartersville, Cedartown, Cumming, Dahlonega, Dalton, Dawsonville, Ellijay, Gainesville, Rome and Woodstock.
The watch does not include Fulton County or the city of Atlanta.
Tornadoes, hail to 1 inch in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph and dangerous lightning is possible in or near the watch area.
