LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. --An early morning fire caused the evacuation of 14 units at Lake Sweetwater Apartments Sunday.
A female resident was transported to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.
When firefighters arrived, they began going door-to-door to wake residents and evacuate their apartments. Much of the second floor and attic were consumed by flames and smoke.
The fire displaced 12 adults and two children. The Red Cross was on the scene to assist the victims.
Firefighters were also able to rescue a cat from the most heavily damaged unit.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
