ATHENS, Ga. -- The man accused of killing one Athens-Clarke County Police officer and injuring another has been found competent to stand jury and may face the death penalty. 

Jamie Hood stood in court on Tuesday for a hearing to determine if he was mentally competent to stand trial for the death of Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian and shooting of Senior Police Officer Tony Howard.

Hood has admitted to the shootings. He surrendered to police live on 11Alive after a four-day manhunt in Athens last year.

Hood will appear in court again before his trail for a motion hearing to recuse the original trail Judge Lawton Stevens. 

If Hood is found guilty and also determined to be mentally incompetant, by law, he can not be sentenced to death.
