HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- Hampton Middle School Teacher Fredrick Braswell has been recognized by Suntrust and the Atlanta Falcons, in partnership with Symetra Financial as one of their Heroes in the Classroom.
The news came as a surprise at an assembly held at the school last Thursday, according to J.D. Hardin of Henry County Schools.
The Heroes in the Classroom, in its third year in the Atlanta area, recognizes teachers who balance the core curriculum with students' individual news, build trust among parents, students and the community, and invest in their students' long-term success.
Principal Dr. Carolyn Flemister-Bell said, "Mr. Braswell is a model teacher. He differentiates to ensure success for all of his students. Students thrive in his class and are excited to learn. He is a team player and always wants what is best for Hampton Middle School."
At the assembly, Braswell received an autographed Matt Ryan jersey, tickets and a VIP experience for the Falcon's Monday Night Football home opener. The school got $1,000 of supplies in Braswell's name.
Braswell said, "The factors that influenced me to become a teacher are twofold: one was my personal expectation to graduate college and the other was a neighbor who happened to be a professional educator."
