Obama flew to Orlando on Sunday night, and had planned to attend a re-election rally at Central Florida University with former President Bill Clinton.
"Due to deteriorating weather conditions in the Washington, DC area, the President will not attend today's campaign event in Orlando, Florida," announced White House press secretary Jay Carney.
"The President will return to the White House to monitor the preparations for and early response to Hurricane Sandy," Carney said.
The Orlando event was scheduled to kick of a three-day campaign swing through Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, and Wisconsin, but his schedule is now up in the air due to the storm that is about to strike the northeast United States.
Clinton still plans to speak at the Orlando campaign event this morning, the White House said.
