ATLANTA -- High winds have knocked the power out of hundreds of metro Atlanta homes.

Georgia Power said downed trees were to blame for about 500 outages to the south of the region Tuesday morning. Remaining outages were scattered.
Repairs will take several hours.
Georgia EMC reported no outages in metro Atlanta, but nearly 1,700 outages in Middle Georgia.
Power officials say the numbers could grow with continued high winds later in the day.
Georgia Power has sent 340 trucks and crews to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states to help with restoration efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
