ATLANTA -- Mayor Kasim Reed says he will provide what ever the police department needs to keep officers safe.

In a press conference Monday afternoon, the Mayor says the city is cooperating fully with the NTSB's investigation into the APD helicopter crash Saturday night in northwest Atlanta.

Two officers died in the crash while helping in the search for a missing child.

The mayor says while the chopper was the oldest in the fleet, "significant funds" had been spent to refurbish the aircraft and the pilot was the most experienced member of the unit, especially during night operations.

Reed says the the officers in the air unit preferred the helicopter that went down because it was the most maneuverable of the fleet.

Mayor Reed says the NTSB's investigation will take a year to be completed.

Reed says he met and prayed with the officer's families and trust funds have been set up for them.

The funeral for APD Officer Richard Halford is set for 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church.  Services for Officer Shawn Smiley are set for Nov. 10 at First Baptist Church of Atlanta.
