SUWANEE, Ga. -- A hunter from Cumming was killed and his teenage son was hurt when they plunged from a tree stand in the Suwanee area Monday evening.
Forsyth County Fire Chief Jason Shivers said the two were maneuvering on the stand when they fell 20 to 25 feet to the ground.
Shivers said rescuers battling darkness were able to locate the father and son using a cell phone signal after the teen called for help. The two had been hunting in thick woods on private property off Old Atlanta Road.
Despite efforts to resuscitate 44-year-old Jeffery Lane McBryant, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His son, whose name wasn't released, was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth. Shivers said the boy was in stable condition.
