Teen passenger reported missing from Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

ATLANTA -- The parents of a 16-year-old girl reported her missing on Wednesday.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, Amelia Maldonado was flying from a visit with her mother in Philadelphia to Memphis on Tuesday, where the teen lives with her father. She had a connecting flight in Atlanta.

Both parents, Mrs. Amelia Canales and Mr. Jose Maldonado spoke with police on Wednesday after their daughter never arrived in memphis.

Police contacted Airtran officials, who said Amelia did arrive in Atlanta to change flights, and she was supposed to have boarded her connecting flight at 5:00 p.m. Officials said she never got on that flight, but they did see that she was rebooked for a 9:00 p.m. flight.

According to Airtran, that flight was delayed 50 minutes due to weather, but Amelia never boarded.  Officials said she never landed in Memphis.

According to police, the girl is carrying little money and no credit cards. She did have a cell phone, but she has not answered any calls. Police said Amelia has no associates in Georgia.

Police have issued a lookout for the teen. She is around 5' tall, and weighs about 120 pounds. She is described as Hispanic, with brown eyes.
