GRIFFIN, Ga. -- A five-year-old child is being treated for injuries from a dog attack.  It happened in Griffin Wednesday afternoon around 2:40 p.m.

According to the Griffin Police Department, officers arrived to Ruth Street where a Pit Bull was attacking the girl, while her grandmother was attempting to pull the animal away. Corporal Stan Phillips was forced to shoot and kill the dog.

Shortly after, Spaulding Regional EMS arrived and notified Air Life Georgia.  The girl was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

The Pit Bull, a family dog that was fenced in until the attack, was taken to the Spaulding County Animal Shelter and was euthanized.  It's remains will be tested for rabies.  Two other dogs from the home were removed and taken to the shelter.
