MACON, Ga. (AP) -- The police-involved shooting of an unarmed man drew dozens of protesters to Rosa Parks Square in Macon.
Protesters - including former Macon Mayor C. Jack Ellis - rallied in the square across from City Hall Friday afternoon to protest the Dec. 21 shooting of Sammie Davis Jr.
Authorities say Davis was in a confrontation with a police officer that ended when he was shot three times in his chest.
The newspaper reports police initially said the officer who shot Davis was trying to serve him with a warrant, and later said Davis had no warrants and the officer was responding to a call for service.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave and the shooting is under investigation.
