DULUTH, Ga. -- Two entertainment industry publications -- Venues Today and Pollstar Magazine -- have named the Arena at Gwinnett Center to a Top 10 list of best arenas in the world based on box office sales and attendance figures during the 2012 calendar year for live entertainment.
The Gwinnett facility is No. 10 on the Venues Today Top Stops for venues with 10,001-15,000 capacity. No other Georgia venues made the list.
Topping the list is Brisbane (Australia) Entertainment Centre.
Rounding out the Top 5 are World (Hamburg, Germany); Sydney (Australia) Entertainment Center; Vector Arena (Auckland, New Zealand); and Mandalay Bay Events Center (Las Vegas).
"We had a fantastic year of events from NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships to Dave Matthews Band," said Joseph Dennis, general manager at Gwinnett Center. "We are privileged to be in such a great community that supports the events that come to the arena."
Other recent performers included Blake Shelton, TOOL, George Strait and Martina McBride, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Antebellum, One Direction, American Idol LIVE!, Carrie Underwood, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and Disney on Ice.
Venues Today looked at the numbers from Oct. 16, 2011 to Oct. 15, 2012 to rank the arena fifth domestically and 10th worldwide with year-end gross ticket sales of $10,073,326.
Pollster counted the tally from Jan. 1, 2012 to Dec. 31, 2012 and rated the venue 32nd domestically and 66th worldwide, based on an arena attendance of 207,076 tickets sold.
