HALL COUNTY, Ga. -- A Hall County Fire battalion chief was fired earlier this week after being involved in a fight with family members.
David McGehee, 49, was charged with battery, disorderly conduct and obstruction stemming from a Feb. 7 fight at his Gainesville home.
McGehee's stepson told police there had been an altercation between McGehee, his wife and another stepson. Investigators said alcohol played a role in the fight.
The Hall County Government fired McGehee Feb. 18. He had worked for the fire department for 29 years.
Hall County spokeswoman Katie Crumley said the county's government employee handbook says employees must "act in a way that will merit the continued trust and confidence of the public," and McGehee broke that trust when the charges were filed.
