Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said Baruchman is accused of hitting a school crossing guard at around 3:45 p.m. outside Liberty Elementary School on Bells Ferry Road and then leaving the scene.
The crossing guard, 63-year-old Jerrold Reaid, broke his ankle in the incident. He has since been released from Northside Cherokee Hospital, Baker said.
Witnesses say the back window of the suspect's car had a T-shaped sticker. When detectives found Baruchman's car, they discovered the T had been scraped off the window.
Baruchman is being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on $15,000. He faces a charge of felony hit and run.
Baker said Baruchman had been rushing to get to his drug court graduation on time when he hit Reaid.
