Demerta Clay (Gwinnett County Police)
SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Authorities in Snellville attempted to arrest a woman for shoplifting at Home Depot and got more than they had bargained for.
According to Snellville Police, the woman, Demetra Clay, 51, engaged in a physical fight with loss prevention staff at the store before she got into a fight with an officer.
Clay was placed under arrest and somehow ended up in the front seat of the police cruiser. The suspect then rammed the cruiser into a pole about 50 ft. from the store. Another Snellville officer responding to the scene tried to stop Clay but ended up pinned between the car and the sidewalk.
The suspect continued to fight and bite authorities who tried to subdue her in another patrol vehicle. During transport, authorities say Clay attempted to wrap a seatbelt around her neck and beat her head up against the window of the cruiser.
Clay was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. Charges expected in this case, include: misdemeanor shoplifting, battery, theft by shoplifting, interference with gov't property, felony obstruction and felony assault.
The officer harmed in this incident is expected to make a full recovery.
