CONYERS, Ga. -- Local veterans of Honor Flight Conyers made a trip to Washington, D.C. to see the World War II Memorial on Tuesday.
Early that morning, around 25 veterans met at the Conyers American Legion Post. From there, they headed to Hartsfield-Jackson for the flight to D.C.
"I've been looking forward to this a long time," WWII veteran Grady Faulkner said. "I'm really grateful and appreciate the opportunity to go."
Billie Jo Stewart greeted the vets at the airport. She said it's an amazing opportunity to shake their hand.
"I see it in their eyes, and that's why it means so much to me, to be able to give them that appreciation today and show them how much we care and love them and respect them and we're so glad to see them here."
The veterans are due to return to Atlanta around 8:30 Tuesday evening.
